ION explores a new direction for future superyacht design

ION is a 55-metre concept developed by ThirtyC that explores how future superyachts might combine architectural clarity with alternative energy thinking.

The project has been conceived less as a conventional design proposal and more as a study in proportion, presence and long-term sustainability.

Her defining characteristics are expressed through her overall form rather than decorative detail. A vertical bow and restrained profile give the concept a strong, purposeful identity, while the aft section is organised around a two-level saloon designed as a flexible social space. Large glazed surfaces introduce natural light throughout the interior, supporting a layout that balances openness with privacy and adaptability for either private or charter use.

Alongside her design approach, ION introduces the option of integrating the Unity nuclear propulsion system currently under development. Presented as a zero-emissions, refuelling-free solution, the system remains conceptual and is intended to prompt discussion around future propulsion pathways rather than signal immediate application.

ION ultimately positions herself as a forward-looking exercise, questioning how luxury, scale and responsibility could intersect as yacht design evolves.
