Baglietto Unveils First Hybrid-Powered DOM 133 Superyacht, L’Instant
Baglietto has successfully launched L’Instant, the seventh unit in its 40.9-meter DOM 133 superyacht series, at its La Spezia facility. She stands out as the first in the range to incorporate an innovative hybrid propulsion system, integrating Lloyd’s Register-certified technology, a recent advancement by the shipyard.
Designed by Stefano Vafiadis, L’Instant boasts a sleek and modern exterior, while the yacht’s interiors were curated by Leonardo Santi to embody elegance and comfort. Baglietto’s in-house team developed the naval architecture, ensuring both efficiency and performance. L’Instant’s hybrid propulsion system features a diesel-powered endothermic engine alongside a compact electric motor, strategically positioned between the gearbox and the primary engine for optimal functionality.
Equipped with twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesel engines, L’Instant is designed to support sustainability by utilizing HVO biofuels derived from renewable sources. This capability allows for a significant reduction in carbon emissions—potentially cutting CO2 output by up to 90%.
Her advanced electrical system offers dual functionality, acting both as an electric propulsion motor for silent cruising and as a shaft generator to enhance fuel efficiency on extended journeys. When operating in full-electric mode, L’Instant’s state-of-the-art battery packs provide up to nine hours of emission-free anchoring, ensuring a completely silent and eco-friendly onboard experience.
One of the defining features of L’Instant is its customizable layout, which diverges from the traditional DOM 133 configuration. Instead of the standard main deck galley, this space has been repurposed to accommodate a spacious VIP suite, accessible directly from the central lobby. The galley has been relocated to the lower deck, optimizing the available space for guests.
Enhancing onboard comfort, both the VIP suite and the forward-positioned master stateroom feature automated windows, designed to regulate natural ventilation and ensure a continuous exchange of fresh air. Below deck, guest cabins are equipped with custom-engineered opening portholes, allowing for the same environmentally conscious airflow.
For added convenience, L’Instant features a reconfigured staircase layout, seamlessly connecting the main deck and crew quarters to the upper sundeck. The sundeck itself has been thoughtfully enhanced with a versatile bar area, now equipped with a dumbwaiter to facilitate effortless service. Instead of the conventional pool, this space has been transformed into a fully equipped outdoor gym, catering to fitness enthusiasts.
Due to the additional technical space required for the hybrid system, L’Instant’s storage configuration has been adjusted. The 5.8-meter tender and two jet skis have been repositioned to the upper deck, just forward of the wheelhouse. To accommodate this change, a high-capacity 16 Kn (1,600 kg) davit has been installed for smooth launching and retrieval of watercraft.
The interior aesthetic of L’Instant is a sophisticated blend of contrasting materials, combining light eucalyptus wood with rich walnut finishes. A soft, neutral color palette is complemented by subtle turquoise accents woven into the upholstery, reflecting the owner’s personal style and preference.
In terms of performance, L’Instant delivers impressive versatility. When powered by its diesel engines, the yacht reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots. In full-electric mode, it maintains a steady cruising speed close to 10 knots, providing a quieter, more sustainable yachting experience.
