Alfa Nero Superyacht Sold for $40 Million After Government Seizure

The 82-meter Oceanco superyacht, Alfa Nero, has been sold for $40 million, according to Antigua Newsroom. The vessel was previously seized by the Antiguan government in 2022 and subsequently placed for auction in 2023.

The yacht's ownership is reportedly linked to an individual on sanction lists issued by the US, UK, and EU following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a result of the seizure, Alfa Nero was restricted from leaving Antigua and limited to receiving only emergency supplies and no refueling during its nearly two-year stay in Falmouth Harbour.

Local news outlet, the Antigua Observer, reported that the extended presence of Alfa Nero had incurred significant costs for the government, exceeding $28,000 per week excluding crew wages and provisions.

It is important to note that a previous attempt to sell the yacht at auction in September 2023 resulted in the highest bidder, former tech executive Eric Schmidt, withdrawing his $67.6 million offer. This left the sale status uncertain until the recent successful transaction at a lower price point.
